Federal government schools and colleges in the capital will observe an extended holiday period this March after authorities combined the scheduled spring break with Eid ul-Fitr holidays. The arrangement will allow students, teachers, and staff to enjoy up to 11 consecutive days off.
According to an official notification, all institutions operating under the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) will remain closed from March 24 to March 27 for spring holidays. Academic activities will resume on Monday, March 30, once the break ends.
Officials said the spring holidays were scheduled alongside the Eid ul-Fitr public holidays so families could spend a longer festive period together before the academic routine resumes.
The extended break will be spread across several holidays and weekends. The expected Eid ul-Fitr holidays fall between March 19 and March 21, based on early moon sighting forecasts.
This will be followed by the Sunday weekend on March 22 and the national holiday on March 23, which marks Pakistan Day. Spring holidays for federal educational institutions will then continue from March 24 to March 27, followed by another weekend on March 28.
With these dates combined, many students and staff in Islamabad will receive a continuous break of up to 11 days.
Meteorological experts say the Shawwal crescent moon is likely to be sighted on March 20, which means Eid ul-Fitr could be observed on Saturday, March 21. However, the final announcement will be made by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
Educational institutions are scheduled to reopen on March 30, and attendance will be compulsory. Authorities have also directed schools and colleges to ensure that academic activities, including admissions and examinations already scheduled, continue smoothly once classes resume.
