Fire breaks out again at Karachi garment factory after collapse

A fire broke out again on Friday at a Karachi garment factory that had collapsed during a blaze the previous day, according to the report. The three-storey building, located in the Karachi Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in Landhi, had collapsed after Thursday’s fire.

Eight fire brigade vehicles were deployed to control the flames, but after 14 hours, the fire reignited, and officials warned it could take two more days to fully extinguish it.

The initial blaze on December 4, 2025, led to the evacuation of three nearby factories and caused injuries to two firefighters when part of the building caved in during firefighting efforts.

The intense heat and flames caused the structure to collapse a few hours after sunset. Sukhan police and firefighters responded promptly, while Rescue-1122 confirmed that they received the alert around 2 pm.

Eyewitnesses reported thick clouds of smoke spreading to surrounding areas, causing breathing difficulties for residents. The challenging conditions inside the factory further complicated the firefighting operation, and authorities advised people in nearby factories and homes to stay away from the site.

This marks the sixth major fire incident in Landhi EPZ this year, with previous incidents in June 2025 damaging three factories and injuring five firefighters. Similar large-scale fires had also destroyed three factories in July 2020, highlighting ongoing safety concerns in the industrial zone.
