KARACHI: The largest and brightest moon of 2025 will light up the night sky on Wednesday (tonight), visible across Pakistan after sunset.
Astronomy experts say this will be the year’s biggest supermoon, appearing noticeably larger and brighter as it reaches its closest distance to Earth.
A supermoon occurs when the Moon moves closest to Earth in its orbit, making it look bigger and more luminous than usual. The last supermoon of the year was seen globally, including in Pakistan, on October 7.
On November 5, the Moon will be around 356,980 kilometers away from Earth, appearing nearly 8% larger and 16% brighter than normal.
Astronomers explain that three to four supermoons typically occur each year. The spectacle is most breathtaking when the Moon is low on the horizon, as it appears larger due to an optical illusion created by nearby objects like trees and buildings.
Experts suggest watching the supermoon within the first hour after it rises for the most captivating view. The final supermoon of 2025 is expected to be visible on December 5.
