A powerful thunderstorm, accompanied by strong winds and lightning, hit Lahore late Saturday night, bringing a pleasant drop in temperature but causing power outages across several areas, as per the report on Sunday.
The storm, which also brought heavy rain to Kamalia, Toba Tek Singh, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, and Kasur, uprooted trees in multiple neighbourhoods, further disrupting electricity supply in parts of the city.
According to the Meteorological Department, rainfall is expected today in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan, with a chance of hailstorms in some regions.
The overnight downpour provided relief from the persistent heat but also led to challenges such as fallen trees and power cuts.
Residents of Lahore and other parts of Punjab woke up to a cool and breezy morning after the intense rainfall.
A Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab spokesperson reported that Noorpur Thal received 47mm of rain, Faisalabad 42mm, Okara 35mm, Toba Tek Singh 34mm, Sargodha 23mm, Lahore 38mm, Jhang 17mm, and Mianwali 10mm, while other cities, including Shortkot, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujrat, Kasur, and Sahiwal, also received showers.
He added that more rain is expected across various districts in the next 24 hours, including Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Gujrat, and Sialkot.
