Govt announces new Karachi–Sukkur train service

Federal Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi has announced the launch of a new passenger train between Karachi and Sukkur, backed by an investment of Rs6 billion. The service will feature upgraded tracks and modern facilities, including air-conditioned coaches.

The announcement was made during a meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, where the long-delayed Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project also came under discussion.

Shah stressed the need for immediate cooperation between the provincial government and Pakistan Railways, saying the KCR had already been delayed for years and required urgent attention.

The chief minister suggested outsourcing certain operations to enhance efficiency and pressed for priority upgrades to the Karachi-to-Rohri rail line, which he noted would ease commuting challenges and improve overall capacity.

Both sides also agreed to clear encroachments along railway tracks to pave the way for new projects and smoother operations in the future.
