Punjab govt cracks down on illegal housing schemes after floods

The Punjab government has intensified its action against illegal housing schemes, with the arrest of a private society owner in Lahore as part of the ongoing crackdown.

According to the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), the operation has accelerated in the aftermath of widespread flood damage in the province.

DG ACE Sohail Zafar Chattha confirmed that both the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) have been issued notices, instructing them to submit complete records of housing projects, particularly those located along the River Ravi.

Chattha disclosed that the arrested developer, allegedly supported by some LDA officials, had unlawfully acquired 11,000 kanals of land near Thokar and transferred nearly Rs8 billion abroad to Dubai. The case is currently under investigation.

He added that steps are being taken to recover the misappropriated funds and ensure compensation for citizens who were misled by these fraudulent schemes.
