CM Maryam introduces boat clinics for flood victims in Punjab

LAHORE: In a first for Punjab, the provincial government has introduced “Clinics on Boats” to deliver healthcare services to flood-stricken communities.

Acting on the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, mobile hospitals have been deployed on boats to reach areas cut off by floodwaters. Health teams are stationed across affected districts to ensure timely medical care.

Officials shared that the Chief Minister has given special attention to women and children in relief camps. Alongside 968 clinics-on-wheels, medical camps have also been established to strengthen healthcare access.

Special provisions have been made for pregnant women, including routine check-ups, multivitamins, sanitary kits, and other essential supplies. Rural ambulance services remain on alert to shift patients to nearby hospitals when needed.

For children, specialist doctors are carrying out daily visits to relief camps, and newborns are receiving routine vaccinations.

Under the Chief Minister’s instructions, medical teams are also addressing mosquito bites, skin diseases, gastrointestinal issues, cholera, and malaria.

Adequate stocks of ORS, antibiotics, and other vital medicines have been arranged. Malnourished children are also being screened and treated.

Officials noted that these steps mark an unprecedented effort to provide healthcare during what is described as Punjab’s worst flooding in history.
