CM Maryam shares important public message ahead of Basant festival 2026

LAHORE: With the 2026 Basant festival drawing near, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has shared an important safety advisory for the people of Lahore.

In a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Nawaz highlighted her concern for the safety and well-being of citizens participating in the traditional kite-flying festival, which is widely celebrated across the city.

In her message, the chief minister particularly spoke to those celebrating Basant on rooftops, a popular part of the festivities. She advised residents to remain cautious, especially if their rooftops lack permanent walls or railings. Nawaz suggested temporarily securing rooftops by fastening tightly tied, three-tiered nylon ropes to help avoid any untoward incidents.

“My dear Lahories, your safety and well-being matter to me,” Nawaz wrote. “If you are celebrating Basant and your rooftop does not have a permanent wall or railing, please secure it temporarily with tightly tied, three-tiered nylon ropes to prevent any mishaps. May Allah protect you all. Ameen.”

Four Holidays Announced in Lahore

Separately, the Punjab government has announced official holidays in Lahore on February 6 and 7, 2026, according to a notification issued by the Services and General Administration Department.

The notification also stated that citizens will effectively enjoy a four-day holiday period since February 5 is observed as Kashmir Day, while Sunday, February 8, is a routine weekly holiday.

As a result, government offices, educational institutions and several other organisations will remain closed from Friday, February 6, through Sunday, February 8.
