Strong winds, heavy rain, and hailstorms swept through Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Friday, bringing relief from the heat.
In Karak, rain with thunder and lightning was reported, while several areas in Buner also experienced thunderstorms, heavy showers, and hail.
A powerful westerly weather system is expected to affect the upper catchments of major rivers along with parts of Islamabad, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Sunday to Tuesday.
According to an alert issued by NDMA’s National Emergencies Operations Center, the system may cause moderate rainfall, with chances of isolated heavy showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.
In the upper catchments of the River Jhelum, heavy rains could lead to medium to high water flows, while rainfall in the Ravi and Sutlej catchments may raise levels in eastern rivers, posing a risk of medium flooding in vulnerable areas.
Water levels in the western tributaries of the Swat, Panjkora, and Kabul rivers are also expected to rise.
