Punjab begins sealing illegal tuition centres

The Punjab government has stepped up its campaign against illegal and unregistered academies across the province following recent incidents in Baghbanpura and Kahna. The operation has now been expanded beyond major cities to include rural areas.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said hundreds of unregistered tuition centres have been sealed with the help of district administrations, public complaints and cooperation from parents.

The minister said the investigation into the Baghbanpura incident took a different turn after media reports brought important details to light. He explained that the coverage confirmed the affected children were not inside the school building as initially believed but were in a nearby street.

Rana Sikandar Hayat also appreciated the media’s role in highlighting the Kahna incident, summer camps and examination cheating networks. He said the reporting helped authorities identify violations and take timely action.

The minister added that the province-wide crackdown on illegal academies will continue, with enforcement now being extended to rural areas to ensure compliance with education regulations and enhance student safety.
