Karachi shuts down over 200 shops in Saddar for fire safety violations

Karachi authorities have shut down two markets in Saddar over serious fire safety violations, officials confirmed.

DC South Javed Nabi said the sealed markets, which together house more than 200 shops, did not have proper fire-fighting arrangements. He added that the markets will remain closed until all safety measures are fully in place.

Both markets had received notices before, and a survey of all markets in the district is now underway. Authorities have also warned that any market found without adequate fire safety measures will face closure following a warning.

This action follows a recent fire at Gul Plaza, after which the Sindh Chief Minister ordered an immediate inspection of fire safety arrangements in all major markets across Karachi.
