EU to provide €3 million to help flood victims in Punjab

The European Union has announced an additional €3 million in emergency aid to support communities in Pakistan affected by this year’s severe monsoon floods, with a focus on the hardest-hit districts in Punjab.

The new funding is intended to assist millions of people struggling to recover after the record rains displaced families, destroyed homes, and damaged farmland.

In a statement, the EU said the aid will be provided as direct cash assistance, helping vulnerable households meet urgent needs and start rebuilding their lives.

This follows earlier relief efforts. In September, the EU released €1.05 million to provide healthcare, clean water, sanitation, and other essential services to affected communities.

The monsoon’s destruction has been extensive, affecting nearly 7 million people, displacing around 2.9 million, and claiming over 1,000 lives. More than 200,000 homes were damaged, and agriculture suffered severe losses nationwide.

EU Commissioner for Preparedness, Crisis Management and Equality, Hadja Lahbib, highlighted the urgent need for support and reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to helping flood-affected communities recover.
