More rains expected in Punjab, Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) has issued a fresh alert after the Met Office forecast more rainfall in Islamabad and Punjab over the next 12 to 24 hours, at a time when floods continue to wreak havoc across the country, ARY News reported.

According to the NEOC, intermittent showers are expected in Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock, Multan, Bahawalnagar, Sialkot, and Narowal.

Heavy downpours are also likely in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Chiniot, Faisalabad, and Sargodha.

It is worth noting that Pakistan, particularly Punjab, is currently facing one of its worst flood disasters in 2025, fueled by continuous monsoon rains, flash floods, and glacial lake outbursts.

The calamity has so far claimed over 800 lives and left more than 1.2 million people affected across several provinces.

The floods have caused widespread destruction, sweeping away infrastructure and worsening the economic crisis, with damages estimated to potentially reach $50 billion.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Army is carrying out extensive rescue and relief operations in different parts of Punjab. Soldiers are using boats to evacuate stranded people, including women, children, and the elderly, and relocating them to safe areas.

Families hit by the disaster have praised the army’s efforts, saying the military is standing by the nation during this difficult period.
