A 5.5 magnitude earthquake jolted parts of Pakistan early Saturday, but fortunately there were no loss of life or property reported in its quake .
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC), tremors were felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, Swat, Mardan, Abbottabad, Sargodha, Kasur, Murree, Balakot, Shangla and parts of Gilgit-Baltistan. In many areas, residents were startled out from sleep and rushed outside.
Meanwhile, heavy rain and thunderstorm hit Islamabad and Murree, adding to the overnight weather disturbance in the region.
In case of any emergency citizens can call to the helpline 1700, said PDMA.
At the same time strong tremors were felt in India-held Kashmir and Afghanistan.
These latest series of earthquake in northern areas of Pakistan are due to Hindu Kush region, a known seismic hotspot due to active tectonic plate boundaries between the India and Eurasian plates.
