Karachi to face cold wave as temp to drop in next 24 hours

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning for Karachi residents about an incoming severe cold wave, with temperatures expected to drop further in the coming days.

Officials said a new spell of cold weather is approaching the city, which may intensify the chill, especially during early morning and nighttime hours. Over the next 24 hours, Karachi is expected to experience cold and dry conditions, similar to the rest of the country.

Cold and dry weather is also forecast for Quetta, Lahore, Islamabad, and Peshawar, while northern mountainous regions are likely to face extremely cold conditions. Areas including Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Dir, Chitral, and Swat may see temperatures falling well below seasonal averages.

Meteorologists also warned of possible fog formation in several districts of Punjab during morning hours, which could reduce road visibility.

In northern Balochistan, including Chaman, icy winds following rain and snowfall have sharply increased the intensity of cold. The temperature in Chaman was recorded at -1°C, highlighting the severe winter conditions in higher altitude areas.

Snowfall has covered the upper regions, turning mountains into winter landscapes and reinforcing the seasonal chill.

The PMD urged citizens and tourists to take necessary precautions and stay updated on weather advisories to avoid risks.
