Solar panel prices drop after GST suspension in Pakistan

Solar panel prices in Lahore have started to fall, with markets reporting a drop of up to Rs150,000 on systems between five and fifteen kilowatts.

Dealers say the decrease is due to lower import expenses and better availability of equipment.

As per 24NewsHD, a 5-kilowatt system is now selling for around Rs550,000, while a 7-kilowatt setup costs roughly Rs625,000.

Larger systems have also become cheaper, with 10-kilowatt units priced at Rs900,000, 12-kilowatt systems at Rs1,050,000, and 15-kilowatt options at about Rs1,300,000.

These rates apply to on-grid systems, while customers choosing hybrid models will have to pay extra for batteries.

This shift in prices comes shortly after the federal government temporarily postponed the general sales tax on solar equipment.

On November 27, 2025, officials agreed to review the earlier plan to impose a 16 percent GST following concerns raised by stakeholders.

President Asif Ali Zardari endorsed the appeal and instructed the federal ombudsman to hear the case again.

All power distribution companies had opposed the tax, saying it would force them to pay large refunds to consumers and further burden the power sector.
