Petrol price drops in Pakistan

KARACHI: The federal government has reduced the price of petrol by Rs7.54 per litre for the next two weeks, effective from August 1, according to a notification issued by the Finance Division on Thursday.

Following this reduction, the new price of petrol stands at Rs264.61 per litre.

At the same time, the price of high-speed diesel has been increased by Rs1.48 per litre, bringing it to Rs285.83 per litre.

The Finance Division explained that the decision was made after reviewing the current trends in the international market and on the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority along with other concerned ministries.

Products Existing prices w.e.f. July 16 New price w.e.f August 1 Increase/Decrease
High Speed Diesel (HSD) Rs284.35 Rs285.83 Rs+1.48
MS (Petrol) Rs272.15 Rs264.61 Rs-7.54

In the previous two-week review, petrol prices had gone up by Rs5.36 per litre, while diesel saw a sharp increase of Rs11.37 per litre.

Petrol is widely used by small vehicles, rickshaws, and motorcycles, meaning any price change directly impacts middle- and low-income groups who rely on it for daily travel.

High-speed diesel, on the other hand, plays a key role in the transport sector and is heavily used in trucks, buses, trains, and agricultural machinery like tractors and tube wells. A rise in its price often leads to higher transportation costs, which in turn pushes up the prices of vegetables and other essential goods.
