The Trump administration has introduced CBP Home, a mobile app designed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to allow undocumented immigrants to voluntarily “self-deport.”
This initiative provides an alternative to arrest or custody by enabling individuals to signal their intent to leave the U.S. on their terms.
This development follows President Trump’s recent newcomer to enforce large-scale deportations.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated, “The CBP Home app gives aliens the option to leave now and self-deport, so they may still have the opportunity to return legally in the future and live the American dream.”
However, she emphasized that those who do not depart voluntarily will be forcibly removed without the option of legal re-entry.
The CBP Home app replaces CBP One, an initiative from the Biden administration that allowed migrants in Mexico to schedule legal entry appointments at border crossings.
Trump ended that program soon after taking office, leaving many hopeful migrants in uncertainty.
The launch of CBP Home signifies a stark shift in U.S. immigration policy, focusing on encouraging departures rather than facilitating legal entry.
