Banks to remain closed for two extra days this week

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that it will remain closed on June 25 and 26, 2026, in observance of Ashura, which falls on the 9th and 10th of Muharram 1448 A.H.

According to an official statement, the central bank will observe the public holidays in line with the notification issued by the Government of Pakistan for the religious occasion.

The two-day closure will extend to the entire banking sector. All commercial banks, development finance institutions (DFIs), and microfinance banks (MFBs) will also remain closed on Thursday and Friday.

“As declared by the Government of Pakistan, the State Bank of Pakistan will remain closed on 25th and 26th June 2026 (Thursday and Friday), being public holidays on the occasion of Ashura (9th and 10th Moharram 1448 A.H.), “SBP said.

Earlier, the Cabinet Division confirmed the nationwide public holidays for Ashura through a notification approved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The public holidays will be observed by all federal government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous institutions, and educational institutions operating under both five-day and six-day work schedules.

The notification has also been shared with all ministries, divisions, provincial governments, and other relevant authorities to ensure its implementation nationwide.
