RIYADH: Prince Alwaleed bin Khaled, widely known as “The Sleeping Prince,” passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025, after spending nearly two decades in a coma.

His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, confirmed the heartbreaking news, as reported by the Saudi Gazette. Funeral prayers will take place on Sunday at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh after the Asr prayer.

Prince Alwaleed fell into a coma while studying in the United Kingdom and remained in a critical state for almost 20 years, showing only rare and brief signs of movement.

Despite medical challenges, his father refused to remove life support, holding onto his belief that only God decides the fate of life and death.

Over the years, the prince’s condition drew deep sympathy from people across Saudi Arabia and around the world, as many followed his story with concern and compassion.

Prince Alwaleed, who turned 36 this April, was the great-grandson of King Abdulaziz, the founder of Saudi Arabia. His passing marks the end of a long and emotional chapter that touched millions of hearts.
