Iraq’s Civil Aviation Authority has officially reopened the country’s airspace to all commercial and international flights after weeks of closure caused by the Middle East war and regional security concerns, local authorities confirmed.

The reopening follows a reported ceasefire between the United States and Iran, which helped stabilize conditions and lower risks to civil aviation.

In a statement, the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority said the reopening is effective immediately, allowing airlines to resume takeoffs, landings and overflights through Iraqi airspace.

The decision comes after temporary extensions of the closure were previously imposed due to escalating tensions and safety risks for international flights.

The closure had caused widespread disruptions in air travel across the Middle East, forcing airlines to reroute flights and cancel schedules amid heightened military activity.

Aviation analysts say reopening Iraq’s airspace could shorten global flight routes, reduce fuel costs and restore confidence among carriers operating between Asia, Europe and Africa.

Aviation data shows that the conflict had previously led to extended detours and cancellations across the region’s main air corridors.

Following the announcement, passengers and airlines are closely monitoring updates from Iraqi airports and international carriers as normal flight operations gradually resume.
