Israeli forces have announced the deportation of 450 activists detained during an operation against the Gaza-bound Global Solidarity Flotilla, which was carrying humanitarian aid for Palestinians.
The flotilla included several prominent figures such as former senator Mushtaq Ahmad, climate activist Greta Thunberg, and Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela, grandson of Nelson Mandela.
Organizers reported that Israeli naval forces seized 42 boats, including the flagship “Alcatala,” and took more than 450 people into custody. During the raid, communication systems and live video feeds from the vessels were reportedly jammed.
The captured boats are being escorted to Ashdod port, from where the activists will be deported back to Europe.
Flotilla organizers, however, confirmed that one vessel, “Merinet,” is still heading toward Gaza, while journalist Hassan Masood claimed another boat, “Makino,” has already entered Gaza’s territorial waters.
Despite growing protests around the world, the Israeli prime minister has maintained a firm position against the flotilla, as demonstrations continue in support of Gaza and against Israel’s actions.
