ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to restart the deportation process for illegal foreign residents, including Afghan nationals, according to a report citing the Ministry of Interior.

The Ministry confirmed that Section 14-B of the Foreigners Act will be imposed to facilitate the repatriation of Afghan citizens who are currently facing trial. Individuals who have been convicted or are undergoing legal proceedings will also be sent back to their countries.

The Interior Ministry stated that the Proof of Registration (PoR) cards, which previously allowed Afghan refugees to stay in Pakistan legally, expired on June 30, 2025. Those still in the country with expired PoR cards are now considered to be living illegally.

Authorities have issued instructions to district administrations, police, prison officials, and other relevant departments to arrest and deport all illegal foreign nationals.

In line with this, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Home Department has also directed Afghan citizens holding PoR cards to return to Afghanistan. They have been instructed to report to transit points in Peshawar and Landi Kotal for the repatriation process.

This action follows federal government orders issued on July 31, 2025, as confirmed by the KP Home Department.

The department reiterated that PoR cards are no longer valid, and any Afghan citizens still in the country without proper documents such as visas or passports will be considered illegal residents and subject to deportation.
