The Sindh government has officially declared July 5 (Saturday) and July 6 (Sunday), 2025, as public holidays across the province in observance of Ashura, marking the 9th and 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram 1447 A.H.
An official notification issued on July 1 by the Services, General Administration & Coordination Department confirmed that the holidays will be observed by all government departments, autonomous and semi-autonomous organizations, corporations, and local councils under the Sindh government. “Essential services will remain operational,” as stated in the notification.
The announcement was made by Chief Secretary Sindh, Asif Hyder Shah, and the directive has been shared with all concerned departments for immediate action.
Ashura holds deep religious significance for Muslims, as it commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A.), the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), at the historic Battle of Karbala.
Large-scale processions and heightened security measures are expected throughout Sindh during these two days.
Authorities have appealed to citizens to observe the occasion with respect and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to help maintain peace and order.
