Three injured after 5.5 magnitude earthquake hits Balochistan

Balochistan: At least three people were injured on Saturday after a 5.5 magnitude earthquake hit the Musa Khel district and nearby areas in Balochistan.

The tremors were felt widely across the region. According to the Earthquake Monitoring Centre, the epicentre was located 56 kilometres northeast of Musa Khel at a depth of 28 kilometres.

In Musa Khel, the quake caused major damage, two houses were completely destroyed, and three others were partially damaged.

Rescue teams confirmed that three people were hurt due to collapsing structures, though the injuries were reported to be minor.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has launched relief efforts in the affected areas.

A spokesperson from the PDMA said teams are on the ground measuring the full extent of the damage and are distributing tents to provide temporary shelter to displaced families.

Earlier, tremors were also felt in the Barkhan district. Fortunately, no damage or injuries were reported.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the Barkhan earthquake had a magnitude of 3.9, struck at a depth of 12 kilometres, and had its epicentre 59 kilometres northwest of the district.

Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation, although no serious impact has been observed.
