The Sindh government took firm environmental action by imposing a complete ban on plastic bags across the province. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah announced this decision during a cabinet meeting.

The officials approved the amendments to the Sindh Prohibition of Non-Degradable Plastic Products Rules 2024. The amendment covers all types of plastic shopping and carrier bags and will have strict enforcement against their manufacture, sale, and use throughout Sindh.

In addition to this landmark environmental measure, the cabinet made several important decisions regarding education and institutional support. First-year college students in Karachi will receive 20% grace marks in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics.

Major funding grants were approved, including Rs200 million for Cadet College Petaro, Rs16.5 million for new buses at Cadet College Karampur, and Rs20 million to support the National Boxing Championship.

The healthcare sector will see substantial investments, with a one-time grant of Rs500 million for Karachi Kidney Centre and another Rs300 million for the Sindh Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases.

On public safety matters, the cabinet greenlit the Sindh Habitual Offenders Monitoring Rules 2025, which will implement electronic bracelet monitoring for repeat offenders under the existing Sindh Habitual Offenders Monitoring Act 2023.

These comprehensive decisions reflect the provincial government’s multifaceted approach to addressing environmental concerns while supporting education, healthcare, and public security initiatives across Sindh.
