Karachi: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has assured that Saim Ayub’s rehabilitation is progressing well, but his future will not be put at risk for just one tournament.

While speaking to media representatives during his visit to Houston, the PCB chairman stated, “Saim Ayub is an asset to Pakistan. I stay in touch with him on a daily basis.”

He further mentioned that Saim’s plaster will be removed in the next couple of days, after which his recovery process will begin, though it will take some time, according to Independent Urdu.

Saim Ayub sustained an injury during Pakistan’s tour of South Africa, after which he was sent to England for treatment. Earlier in January, the PCB announced that the opening batter would be out of action for at least six weeks due to an ankle sprain.

Following his injury, Saim’s participation in the upcoming Champions Trophy became uncertain.

Despite the setback, his impressive performances last year earned him a spot in the ICC ODI Team of the Year. In 2023, Saim Ayub played nine One Day Internationals (ODIs), scoring 515 runs at an average of over 64. His highest score was 113, and he registered three centuries and a half-century with a strike rate exceeding 100.

The young cricketer’s potential continues to shine, and the PCB remains hopeful about his full recovery and future contributions to the national team.
