The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet in Peshawar today (Friday) for the sighting of the Ramadan moon.

However, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has indicated that there is little chance of sighting the moon due to cloudy weather conditions.

The meeting will take place at 6:30 pm on February 28, with Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad presiding over the meeting after Asr prayers.

Meanwhile, zonal committees nationwide will also hold separate meetings to review moon sighting reports. Scholars from various Islamic schools of thought will participate in the central meeting.

According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Met Office has predicted partly cloudy skies across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, over the next 24 hours. The PMD stated, “Due to cloudy weather, the chance of sighting the Ramadan moon is low.”

Experts at the department explained that at sunset, the moon would be around 12 hours old, with an angular separation of approximately five degrees from the sun, which further decreases the chances of visibility.
