The Punjab government has earmarked Rs4 billion in the 2025–26 budget for a solar panel initiative designed to encourage the use of renewable energy throughout the province.
This effort aims to bring clean and affordable electricity to local communities, helping to cut energy costs and boost the region’s long-term energy stability.
Beyond the solar push, the new budget outlines major spending in other important sectors. Funding for the transport sector has surged by 359%, signaling the government’s commitment to enhancing urban transportation.
To promote aquaculture and strengthen the agriculture sector, Rs8.3 billion has been set aside specifically for shrimp farming.
Social welfare is also a priority, with Rs3.5 billion allocated for the “Minority Card,” Rs4 billion for the “Chief Minister Punjab Himmat Card,” and Rs40 billion for the “Maryam Nawaz Social Security Ration Card.”
For housing, the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” scheme has been allocated Rs150 billion to support affordable homes for lower-income families.
Additionally, the government announced a 10% salary raise for provincial employees and proposed a 5% hike in pensions for retired workers.
