The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that the ongoing heatwave will persist across parts of Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan, with temperatures expected to soar up to 7°C above the seasonal average.

Major cities like Lahore, Peshawar, Sargodha, and Multan are forecast to see temperatures hitting or surpassing 40°C, while areas such as Sukkur, Nawabshah, Mithi, Sibi, and Turbat could experience extreme heat of 45°C or more.

PMD noted that Nawabshah recorded the highest temperature nationwide on Sunday, climbing to a scorching 48°C.

In Karachi, temperatures are expected to stay between 36°C and 38°C, with humidity levels around 76 percent and light sea breezes moving at 9 kilometres per hour.

In response to the intensifying heat, the Punjab Education Department has announced an early start to summer school vacations.

A notification confirmed that all schools in the province will begin their holidays from June 1.
