The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning for an ongoing heatwave expected to last until April 18, affecting large parts of Sindh with higher-than-usual temperatures.

Districts like Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Sukkur are likely to experience temperatures 6 to 8°C above normal, while areas like Badin, Tharparkar, Umerkot, and Hyderabad could see a rise of 4 to 6°C, according to the report.

Gusty winds are also forecasted for Karachi and surrounding districts during this period.

Authorities are urging residents, especially children, women, and the elderly, to stay safe by avoiding the sun during peak hours and staying hydrated.

In Karachi, rising humidity levels will make the heat feel even more intense, with mornings expected to have 70% to 80% humidity and evenings around 50% to 60%.

Over the next few days, hot and humid weather will persist, with maximum temperatures ranging from 35°C to 37°C.

To cope with the sweltering heat, experts recommend wearing light and breathable fabrics.

Men are advised to choose pale-colored cotton shirts and loose trousers or chinos, while avoiding heavy materials like denim. Polo shirts and linen clothing can offer both comfort and style.

For women, traditional lawn fabric remains ideal, offering breathability and comfort. Flowing outfits like palazzo pants and loose tops made from natural materials help manage heat without compromising modesty.

Lightweight accessories like cotton scarves or chiffon dupattas provide sun protection without adding heat.

Children should wear soft, tightly woven cotton clothing to block UV rays. Long-sleeved shirts and pants are more effective than short clothes, and wide-brimmed hats offer good protection for the face and ears.

At night, light pyjamas or just a nappy, along with a thin sheet, can help keep kids cool and safe.
