Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Monday that May 10 will be observed each year as ‘Youm-e-Marka-e-Haq’, to honour the “magnificent success” of Operation Bunyanum Marsoos and to show unity across the country, according to the Associated Press of Pakistan.
In his national address, the Prime Minister said this day will be marked with enthusiasm and pride, celebrating the courage and professionalism of Pakistan’s Armed Forces. “The professional capabilities of our brave forces kept our heads high with pride,” he said.
He declared that this Friday will be a day of national tribute and gratitude, where citizens will offer special prayers, continuing the observance of Youm-e-Tashakur, thanking Allah for the country’s protection and praying for peace and prosperity.
PM Sharif also introduced a robust relief and compensation plan for those affected by Indian strikes.
Families of civilians martyred during Marka-e-Haq will receive Rs10 million, while injured civilians will be compensated between Rs1 million and Rs2 million, depending on the severity of injuries.
For Armed Forces martyrs, compensation will range between Rs10 million and Rs18 million, based on rank. Additionally, the government will allocate Rs19 million to Rs42 million to help their families build homes.
The full salary, including allowances, of each martyred soldier will continue to be paid until their expected retirement date.
Children of fallen soldiers will be entitled to free education up to graduation, and one daughter of each martyr will receive a Rs1 million marriage grant. Wounded soldiers will be compensated between Rs2 million and Rs5 million, based on injury severity.
The Prime Minister also promised that the government will rebuild homes and mosques damaged in the attacks and will cover all medical expenses for those injured.
“It is the responsibility of the government to take care of the children of martyrs, and we will fulfil this obligation,” the Prime Minister affirmed, adding that all who defended the country will be recognized and honoured at the national level.
