In a landmark decision, Pakistan Railways opened five luxury railway saloons. Previously reserved for top officials, including the Prime Minister and the Railways Minister, they are now open for public booking.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered the move, which Railways Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi implemented. The move marks a historic step toward equalising access to premium rail travel.

The saloons, with high end amenities, will be offered at highly affordable rates to encourage broader public use. In parallel, Pakistan Railways has announced plans to install ATMs from multiple banks at major stations.

These initiatives will begin with a pilot phase at important hubs and then roll out nationwide. These efforts aim to modernize passenger services while dissolving long standing elitism in rail travel, and the government’s commitment to equitable and inclusive public service reforms.
