The New Gwadar International Airport has officially become operational with the successful landing of its first commercial flight on Monday, as reported by ARY News.

According to details, PIA flight PK-503 departed Karachi at 9:50 AM, carrying 46 passengers. The aircraft landed at the state-of-the-art airport in Gwadar at 11:15 AM local time, marking the start of commercial operations.

To celebrate the occasion, the flight received a ceremonial water cannon salute upon its arrival. To make this moment even more memorable, the Minister of Defence and Aviation Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, and others were present at the airport to welcome the first flight warmly.

A PIA spokesperson described this achievement as a proud moment for both Gwadar and the entire nation, noting its potential to drive economic growth, boost tourism, and enhance international connectivity for the region.

The inauguration of the New Gwadar International Airport is seen as a vital step towards the development of regional and global connections, opening doors to endless opportunities for regional progress.

It is worth mentioning that the Gwadar International Airport is a key project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The airport was constructed with the collaboration between China and the Civil Aviation Authority.

In February 2024, flight operations at the airport were temporarily suspended following 16 hours of continuous rainfall. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) decided to halt operations to ensure the safety of passengers and aircraft amidst the adverse weather conditions.
