KARACHI: The city suffered a severely hot and humid day on Monday, with temperatures soaring to 40 degrees Celsius.

The intense humidity made the atmosphere roasting, causing discomfort and a feeling of suffocation for many, particularly in the afternoon.

While a few residential areas saw some light drizzles, most of the city remained dry despite expectations for rain.

The day kicked off with a warm minimum temperature of 30 degrees Celsius. Humidity rose sharp early, reaching as high as 73 per cent, creating an already oppressive environment.

With hardly any breeze to offer relief, the heat only intensified as the day went on, making conditions feel more like a heatwave.

The Meteorological Department reported that the city’s maximum temperature hit 40 degrees Celsius, with humidity dropping slightly to 58 per cent later in the day.

However, the mix of heat and humidity made it feel hotter than what the thermometer showed.

Many residents hoped for rainfall to break the heat, especially after forecasts predicted light to moderate showers with thunder and gusty winds.

But aside from brief, scattered drizzles in a few outer areas, the majority of the city saw no rain and continued to bear the brunt of the oppressive weather.
