KARACHI: Heavy rainfall has led to widespread power outages across several parts of the city, causing significant disruptions.

Numerous K-Electric feeders tripped, affecting areas such as Korangi, Landhi, Shah Faisal Colony, Gulistan-e-Johar, Scheme 33, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Gulberg, Bin Qasim, Liaquatabad, and Orangi Town.

Additional neighborhoods like DHA Phase VI, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Baldia Town, Mehmoodabad, Manzoor Colony, and Surjani Town were also impacted.

The electricity outages have also stopped operations at water pumping stations, resulting in water shortages in several areas.

Despite the rainfall, K-Electric stated that its system has remained mostly stable. Over 1,800 out of more than 2,100 feeders continued operating normally on the second day of rain.

At the height of the downpour, around 300 feeders were affected, but most were quickly brought back online once safety checks were completed. Field teams have been working nonstop to restore services.

According to the K-Electric spokesperson, “As a safety precaution, KE temporarily suspended power in select low-lying areas and on circuits with a high occurrence of theft through illegal hook (kunda) connections in order to prevent any untoward incidents.”

Power supply at the Dhabeji pumping station has been disrupted due to a fault in the underground cable.

The KE spokesperson explained, “Fault alteration work is being interrupted due to waterlogging in the area. Once the water recedes, the work will be completed, and the supply will be restored.”

K-Electric’s management is maintaining close coordination with civic authorities and city officials to ensure a swift and effective response.
