K-P weather update: Rain, hail, thunderstorms expected in next 24 hours

Scattered rain and hail are expected in parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) in the next 24 hours as a partially cloudy weather system moves through the region, according to Pakistan’s Meteorological Department (PMD) on Thursday.

Thunderstorms with gusty winds are anticipated in areas like Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, and Malakand, with hailstorms possible in isolated locations.

Rain is also expected in Mansehra, Torghar, Kohistan, Battagram, Abbottabad, and parts of Khyber, Orakzai, Mohmand, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, and Peshawar.

Southern regions, including Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Karak, and North and South Waziristan, may experience thunderstorms and rain.

On Wednesday, light rain was recorded in Peshawar, while Dir experienced the heaviest rainfall at 15 mm. Other notable rainfall amounts included 11 mm in Malam Jabba, 10 mm in Pattan (Kohistan), 9 mm in Kalam, 4 mm in Saidu Sharif (Swat), and 1 mm in Chitral.

Temperatures across the province remained moderate, with Peshawar reaching a high of 21°C, Chitral at 12°C, Dir Bala at 9°C, Kalam at 7°C, and Malam Jabba at 8°C. In the south, Dera Ismail Khan recorded 23°C, and Bannu 22°C.

Authorities have advised residents and travelers to stay cautious due to the potential for sudden weather changes and localized storms.
