The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered authorities to present former Prime Minister Imran Khan via video link today at 2 PM. If this option is not used, the court has directed that he be brought in person by 3 PM.
Earlier, Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan instructed the Superintendent of Adiala Jail to meet with Imran Khan and bring him to court.
Officials issued this order in connection with a case involving PTI leader Mashal Yousafzai, who was allegedly denied a meeting with Khan.
The court wanted confirmation from jail authorities on whether Yousafzai was acting as Khan’s lawyer.
Justice Khan warned that failure to obey the court’s previous order, agreed upon during the last hearing, could result in strict action.
Expressing dissatisfaction with a list presented in court, allegedly from Imran Khan, the judge suggested questioning him directly.
The hearing resumed at noon after a break, with the court issuing a final order for Imran Khan to be present via video link at 2 PM.
If that was not arranged, officials were to present him in person by 3 PM. The authorities ordered the Inspector General of Islamabad to make the necessary arrangements.
During the session, Advocate Shoaib Shaheen informed the court that political leaders had not been able to meet for the past five months. The court also questioned the delay in arranging a meeting between Yousafzai and Khan.
Jail Superintendent Abdul Ghafur Anjum explained that he had been out of town, but the court pressed him on why he had not arranged the meeting last Friday.
Anjum added that both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi had stated that Mashal Yousafzai was neither their lawyer nor their focal person.
The court reiterated its instruction to present Imran Khan and warned of legal penalties for non-compliance.
