Dera Ghazi Khan scorched at 49°C as intense heatwaves gripped Punjab, pushing temperatures to extreme levels. Lahore baked at 45°C on Monday, making it the hottest day of the season so far.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that the heatwave will linger until June 12, with temperatures expected to remain up to 7°C above the usual range in central and upper Punjab, and up to 6°C above normal in the southern parts.

The PMD explained that dry continental winds are dominating much of the country, while high atmospheric pressure continues to build overhead. A weak westerly system is also present over Kashmir and nearby mountainous regions.

These weather conditions are expected to keep the heatwave going in Lahore and across most of Punjab through Tuesday and the following 2–3 days. Gusty winds may offer brief relief during the afternoon hours.

Central and upper Punjab are likely to experience temperatures 5°C to 7°C higher than usual, while southern areas may see readings 4°C to 6°C above normal until June 12.

In Lahore, the temperature is expected to stay between 44°C and 46°C on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Over the last 24 hours, heatwaves persisted across Lahore and numerous districts in Punjab.

Dera Ghazi Khan recorded the highest temperature at a blistering 49°C. Bhakkar and Sargodha followed closely at 48°C, while Bahawalnagar, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Jhang, Layyah, Kasur, Kot Addu, Mandi Bahauddin, and Jhelum all reported highs of 47°C.

In Lahore, the maximum temperature stood at 45°C, with evening humidity recorded at 21 percent.
