As the registration process for Elon Musk’s Starlink nears completion, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Hafeezur Rehman has stated that the Ministry of Interior has yet to approve the satellite-based internet service.

This information came to light during a meeting of the National Assembly Senate Standing Committee on IT and Telecom held on Wednesday.

According to the telecommunication regulatory authority, the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has raised some concerns with Starlink. The satellite internet provider Starlink has agreed to comply with the regulations established by the government for its operations in Pakistan.

According to reports, Starlink’s internet services will function under a well-defined regulatory framework and will adhere to all government policies.

The PTA chairman further stated that Starlink will comply with directives from the government of Pakistan, including the suspension of services if required.

Meanwhile, State Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja mentioned that certain changes have been made to the Digital Nation Bill.

Some committee members, while voicing their concerns over the persistent internet challenges across the country, argued that the government should proceed cautiously with the bill’s implementation.
