Karachi: The Sindh government has officially raised flour prices in Karachi, increasing the rate by Rs8 per kilogram under a new notification issued by the Karachi commissioner.

According to the notification, the price of a 10 kilogram bag of flour has gone up by Rs80. The new retail price has been fixed at Rs107 per kilogram, bringing the cost of a 10 kg bag to Rs1,070. The ex mill rate has been set at Rs104 per kilogram, or Rs1,040 for a 10 kg bag.

The commissioner’s office stated that flour was previously priced at Rs99 per kilogram in December 2025, showing a gradual increase over recent months.

Despite the revised rates, the city administration has been unable to ensure the sale of flour at the officially approved prices. Consumers across Karachi say flour is still being sold well above the notified rates.

At many retail shops, flour is available at around Rs125 per kilogram, while a 10 kg bag costs about Rs1,250. In several localities, chakki flour is reportedly being sold for as much as Rs140 per kilogram, adding to public concern.

Residents say the wide difference between official prices and market rates reflects weak enforcement, as flour prices continue to rise at neighborhood shops despite repeated government notifications.

The new prices have taken effect immediately.
