Rain, thunderstorms and snowfall expected across Pakistan from Dec 29

Rain and thunderstorms, along with snowfall in hilly areas, are expected across the country during the coming week.

According to the Met Office, a westerly weather system is likely to enter western parts of Pakistan on the night of December 29.

It is expected to strengthen from December 30, spread across most upper and central regions by December 31, and continue affecting northern areas until the morning of January 2, 2026.

Under the influence of this system, several parts of Balochistan are likely to receive rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms, while snowfall is expected over the hills.

Areas including Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Noshki, Harnai, Zhob, Kalat, Barkhan, Sibi, Loralai, Musakhel, Turbat, Gwadar, Jiwani, Lasbela, Kech, Awaran, Chagai, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Washuk, Kharan, and nearby regions may experience wet weather from the night of December 29 to December 31 with intermittent breaks.

In Sindh, light rain or drizzle is expected at isolated places such as Karachi, Hyderabad, Dadu, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Thatta, and Badin on December 30.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also likely to see rain and thunderstorms, with moderate to heavy snowfall in upper districts.

Areas including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Waziristan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Bannu, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, and Kohat are expected to be affected from December 30 to January 1, with brief pauses in between.

In Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, rain accompanied by winds and moderate snowfall is forecast from the evening or night of December 30 until the morning of January 2.

Affected areas include Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar, as well as Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur.

For Punjab and Islamabad, rain and thunderstorms are expected, with snowfall likely in Murree and the Galliyat from the evening or night of December 30 to the morning of January 2.

Isolated rain and windy conditions may occur in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, the Potohar region, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, and Gujrat between December 31 and January 1. Southern and central districts, including Mianwali, Bhakkar, Khushab, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalnagar, Muzaffargarh, Jhang, and Sahiwal are also expected to receive rain on December 31.
