The government has announced an immediate countrywide ban on all drone operations due to the worsening security environment and ongoing counterterrorism actions in sensitive areas.
An order issued by the Interior Ministry states that the restriction covers every type of unmanned aerial vehicle including commercial, recreational, agricultural and privately owned drones. Provincial governments and law enforcement agencies have been directed to enforce the ban strictly until further notice.
Officials warned that anyone found violating the directive will face legal action under aviation and anti terror laws. They said controlling low altitude airspace is now a key part of national security, especially amid recent cross border threats, and called on the public to cooperate fully.
The decision comes after several attempted drone incursions were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Security sources said militants tried to carry out drone attacks in Abbottabad, Swabi and Nowshera, increasing tensions along the Pakistan Afghanistan border.
Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said Pakistan’s anti drone defense system intercepted and destroyed all incoming devices. According to officials, there were no casualties or damage to property.
Tarar claimed the incidents revealed what he described as “direct linkages” between the Afghan Taliban and militant activity inside Pakistan. Authorities on the other side of the border have not yet issued a public response.
These developments follow Pakistan’s launch of “Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq” in reaction to what officials called unprovoked cross border attacks at 53 locations.
Security sources said the operation targeted militant infrastructure, including Taliban military headquarters, tanks, artillery units and checkpoints across the border.
Although independent confirmation remains limited, officials maintained that the strikes were precise and aimed at weakening networks that threaten Pakistan’s territorial security.
