Customs Enforcement Karachi recovered 803 smuggled mobile phones worth Rs 62 million after stopping a Mazda truck during an intelligence-led operation, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
A statement said the vehicle was intercepted and searched, resulting in the seizure of undeclared mobile phones. The driver and his helper were detained, and legal action has been initiated under the relevant laws.
Officials added that the seized Mazda truck itself is estimated to be worth around Rs25 million, taking the total value of the recovery to nearly Rs87 million.
Customs authorities said the operation highlights the Federal Board of Revenue’s resolve to crack down on smuggling and illegal trade across the country. Investigations are continuing to trace the wider smuggling network linked to the case.
