The federal government has taken an important step toward tackling climate issues by rolling out the 2025 electric bike scheme across the country.
The official launch of the initiative is expected to take place on August 14, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif likely to announce it during the Independence Day ceremony.
This scheme highlights the government’s focus on building a cleaner, more sustainable transport system and lowering reliance on fuel-powered vehicles.
Funding and Support
A total of Rs9 billion has been earmarked in the current national budget to support this program. Each e-bike will come with a Rs65,000 subsidy to make them more affordable for everyday citizens.
To further reduce the financial strain, buyers will be able to pay the remaining amount through interest-free loans provided by banks.
Easy Access and Online Application
The entire application and registration process will be handled online for public convenience and transparency. If applications exceed the number of bikes available, a computerized draw will decide who gets to benefit.
The government has set a goal to have at least 2 million electric bikes on the road by 2030.
The broader plan also includes introducing over 50,000 electric rickshaws, nearly 100,000 electric cars, and several thousand electric buses and trucks to support eco-friendly transport across the country.
