Islamabad was hit by a sudden spell of rain and thunderstorms on Thursday, with hail reported in several areas of the capital as a weak weather system continued to affect upper parts of the country.
Residents shared videos and pictures of the hailstorm on social media, showing roads, open spaces and other areas covered with hailstones.
Several social media posts also showed the damage caused by the storm. Vehicles, rooftops, solar panels, trees and other property were reportedly damaged as the hailstorm swept through different parts of Islamabad. Residents captured the storm and its aftermath, with the visuals quickly spreading online.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said isolated to scattered rain, windstorms and thunderstorms were expected in Islamabad and several northern areas over the next 24 hours. Its latest flood bulletin also forecast continued thunderstorm activity in Islamabad, upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir.
The weather system has also increased the chances of more rain and hail in the capital. The PMD outlook suggests that scattered rain and thunderstorms may continue in Islamabad and nearby areas over the coming days as the system remains active over upper parts of the country.
Hailstorms can cause damage to vehicles, solar panels, rooftops, trees and other exposed property. Residents are advised to take precautions during thunderstorms, including keeping vehicles in covered areas and avoiding unnecessary travel or exposure in open spaces.
Islamabad has witnessed several severe hailstorms in recent years. In April 2025, a major hailstorm covered roads and open areas with hailstones and reportedly damaged vehicles, solar panels and residential properties.
According to the latest PMD bulletin, the current weather pattern may continue, with rain and thunderstorm activity expected in Islamabad and other northern parts of the country.
