Several electricity tariff relief measures introduced under the Prime Minister’s affordable electricity package are approaching their end and will expire by the close of this month, according to sources.

The relief of Rs1.55 per unit under the third quarter adjustment for the previous financial year is set to end soon.

This comes after the earlier conclusion of a Rs4.51 per unit concession, which had included a specific Rs3.61 per unit reduction for Karachi residents.

Moreover, other reliefs such as Rs1.90 per unit under the second quarter adjustment and a Rs1.71 per unit cut in petroleum levy had already lapsed in June.

A further 90 paisa per unit reduction under the Retained Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA), which benefited only DISCO consumers, has also come to an end.

Although electricity users are still enjoying partial concessions through quarterly adjustments and reduced petroleum levies, most of these benefits are gradually being withdrawn.

Earlier, on April 3, the Prime Minister had announced a relief of Rs7.41 per unit for domestic consumers.

At present, the federal government has brought down the base electricity tariff by Rs1.16 per unit and lowered the monthly adjustment for DISCO consumers by 50 paisa per unit.
