Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has introduced the ‘Roshan Maeeshat Bijli Package’ (Roshan Economy Power Package) aimed at boosting Pakistan’s industrial and agricultural sectors.
The announcement came during a meeting with representatives from the business community, as well as experts from the industrial and agricultural fields, held in Islamabad today.
Under this package, industries and farmers will receive additional electricity at subsidized rates for the next three years, up to October 2028. The package sets the price of additional electricity at Rs22.98 per unit for both sectors.
PM Shehbaz Sharif said that the current electricity rate of Rs34 per unit for industries will be significantly reduced, while extra units will also be provided. Likewise, the rate of Rs38 per unit for the agricultural sector will be lowered with the inclusion of additional units.
He praised Minister for Energy Owais Leghari and his team for their efforts in designing the package.
The prime minister emphasized that industrial and agricultural growth is key to economic progress and job creation, adding that the government is taking all possible measures to strengthen these sectors, make them more competitive regionally, and improve the ease of doing business.
Recalling the previous year’s initiative, he mentioned that industries and the agriculture sector had consumed an additional 410 gigawatts of electricity, which played a major role in increasing industrial activity, enhancing exports, and generating employment.
Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged that the path from economic crisis to stability has been difficult but credited the economic team’s dedication and cooperation from stakeholders for making progress possible.
He expressed optimism that continued growth in industry and agriculture will help Pakistan reduce its dependence on loans.
