A rain emergency has been declared in Lahore after heavy rainfall flooded underpasses, roads, and low-lying areas across the city.
Rain started before dawn and continued throughout the morning, leaving several parts of the provincial capital and nearby areas underwater. The flooding disrupted traffic, as many roads became impassable.
The Airport area recorded the highest rainfall at 263mm. Other areas also received heavy rain, including Kahna (143mm), Shadipura (136mm), Mughalpura (133mm), and Manawan (111mm).
Lahore Commissioner Nauman Yousaf said the city initially received light to moderate rain of up to 50mm. Still, the weather later turned severe, with very heavy rainfall reported in areas such as Gulberg and Tajpura.
He said the city’s drainage system came under immense pressure as streams and stormwater drains reached near-flood levels.
The Defence Underpass was completely flooded and closed for traffic, while the Masjid Chowk Underpass also filled with water, creating serious problems for commuters.

Following the situation, the Lahore Commissioner declared a rain emergency and directed all concerned government departments to remain on high alert.
Teams from the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), the Lahore Metropolitan Corporation, and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) have been deployed across the city to deal with the flooding.
Heavy machinery has also been stationed in low-lying areas, while WASA teams continue working to drain standing water from roads.
