Pakistan has experienced 73 percent more rainfall than normal during this monsoon season, as reported by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab.

Officials have linked this sharp increase to changing climate patterns and a heightened risk of natural disasters.

On Tuesday, PDMA Punjab Director General Irfan Ali Kathiya shared that the heavy downpours have led to 165 deaths across the province, with most fatalities caused by lightning strikes, electrocution, or drowning.

He cautioned that four to five more rain spells are expected in the near future, and emergency preparations are already in motion. β€œThe Punjab government will support the families of those who died as per policy,” he stated.

With the continued rainfall, the threat of urban flooding has risen in several parts of the province, especially in Lahore. Local administrations have been instructed to remain vigilant.

Authorities have also urged the public to take precautions during the rain and avoid flood-prone and low-lying areas to stay safe.
